10th song of the 20/20 project… half way there - Whoo hoo!

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Well, here we are at the half way point 10 weeks into the 20/20 project - can you believe it?!

Last week was a bit of a departure from my normal approach in that I asked for specific suggestions for a 2nd verse for song 9. I was pleasantly surprised at what a creative lot you are! I have been overwhelmed by the response and the creativity.

I must apologize for not responding individually to all the responses simply because I got so many. As well as the comments here at my main blog many of you have emailed and messaged me through myspace - I’ve got a ton of material to work through.

Because last week’s song included an open invitation to suggest lyrics it means that if this song gets published then the suggestions that get included will be credited as co-writers.

By the way, I want to do more of this in the future.

This week it’s back to the regular critique approach. I’ve got a fairly complete (I think) first draft of a song for your feedback. Things like; is it singable, does it stick well to one theme, does it make sense lyrically?

As before leave me a comment via the comment link below the video.

Can my songs be used in your worship services?

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

Some folks have asked about using my previously published songs in worship services at church, events etc.

The songs on this page (20/20/project) aren’t ready for ‘public consumption’ just yet as they are just first drafts at this stage but what about my other recordings; Engage24 and The New Celts songs?

The short answer is: absolutely, no problem. All I ask is that when you do please log it in your CCLI returns.

I’ve listed below the information for the songs that you’ll need.

Not sure what all this is about? Talk to the person in your church or organization that deals with this and give them the following info.

These are on the Engage24 CD the most commonly used songs of mine but you can find licensing details for others at http://www.ccli.com/songsearch/index.cfm?t=1 and simply choose search for author from the drop down menu and type in: Andrew Rogers (it needs to be Andrew and not Andy - legal contracts and all that!).

Any queries - drop me a comment.

9th song of the 20/20 project…

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Folks, thanks so much for your comment, emails and feedback on the the songs so far. You’ve no idea how helpful it is in the overall process - thanks again.

Here’s the 9th song in the series (almost half way - can you believe it!).

This week I’ve done something a little different, inspired by some of your comments and feedback so far. I’ve uploaded a song loosely based on some of the words of Psalm 8, however I think it needs a 2nd verse - what do you think?

If you have any ideas please let me know.

8th song of the 20/20 project…

Monday, July 16th, 2007

Hi Folks,

This week’s song is based on some musings around the opening of the Lord’s prayer. The line ‘Our father in heaven hallowed be your name’ got me thinking about how the various names of God are embodied in the name of Jesus (His name is, after all, the name above all names).

It’s actually an old set of lyrics that I wrote for a series of prayer concerts that I was involved in a number of years ago around Ireland. I had a sense at the time that the Lord was saying that ‘you’ll overcome the Goliath of your land with the 5 ’smooth stones’ of the Lord’s prayer’. You may remember how David, when he faced down Goliath, chose 5 smooth stones from a stream (1Sam 17:40) for his sling.

At that time I had been studying the Lord’s prayer and was aware that there were 5 main themes woven into it and that’s where the 5 smooth stones analogy came in. Anyway I wrote some songs based on these themes of which this was one.

As before, let me have your comments.

P.S. Please excuse the delay it was a busier week than anticipated playing bass in Kathryn Scott’s band at the New Wine conference in Sligo on the beautiful west coast of Ireland.

7th song of the 20/20 project…

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

Here’s the 7th song of the 20/20 project. (Hey, I’ve just realised that I’m uploading in on 07/07/07! A significant day on lots of levels - I’m hearing great reports from ‘The Call’ in Nashville.

Infact let me ramble here for a minute or two before I get to the this week’s song because I just remembered something. Earlier this year I was invloved in a short tour that ended up in Nashville. On my final night before returning to Ireland my hosts, Jeff & Kim Balding invited some friends including Don and Christine Potter, John Ragsdale, my good friends Neil & Susan Andrews and others round for a party. It was a great gathering of creative and prophetic folks and we had a blast.

At the end of the night we had a prayer/ministry time together and in the midst of that I felt the Lord give me a picture. It was the scene from the classic CS Lewis story The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe were all of a sudden both the children and the white witch hear the sound of a stream flowing and realize that the snow and ice that covers the whole land is melting and the endless winter has just started to end.

In the story it inspires both hope in the Narnians and fear in the evil witch’s camp. My understanding was that the yearnings of the intercessors, worshippers and God seekers in the Nashville/Tennessee region’s were soon to be realised and the enemy’s grip was melting like snow in the spring.

Perhaps we’re seeing that happening today?

Anyway, on with the song. This one has been in my rewriting pile for a while. I used it in it’s current form on a few occassions live but feel it could be made more accessible for congregations to sing.

It’s based on the account in Revelation when John, who has known Jesus very closely during his time on earth, is completely undone when he experiences his unveiled splendour.

Let me know what you think. Click here if the video doesn’t show below:

What a great Engage24 event last night

Saturday, July 7th, 2007

As you may know I’m involved in a local, longrunning intercessory worship event here in Coleraine called Engage (www.engage24.net). Well last night was our last get together before the summer break and we had guest worship leader Cindy Raukere from New Zealand with us.

What a significant time it was. Cindy is currently on a world tour with her band lasting almost a full year that all started with a dream she had in March 2006 (that’s a story in its self).

She brought a message of encouragement to marry intercession with mission which I felt was significant for our nation which, like New Zealand, at one time was one of the world’s foremost missionary sending nations.

I’ll upload some mp3 and video clips in due course with more details but in the meantime do yourself a favour and buy her latest album here http://www.amplifier.co.nz/release/26489/karanga.html or via her website http://www.cindyruakere.com/
