Can You Help Me Choose The Opening Song For The New Album?
I’m part way through the recording process for the new worship album (haven’t got a title yet - I may request your help on that too) and I thought I’d ‘kill two birds with the one stone’ as they say.
I wanted to let you hear a sample of some of the completed tracks and ask for your opinion.
In this short video you’ll hear three tracks and I’d like to know which you think would be the best opening song for album.
As an incentive I’ll credit you in the album notes (download version) if you let me have your opinion in the comments section below. By the way if you’d like a link to your website, blog, myspace etc then just let me know the details.
Let me know what you think…

Greetings Andy,
I just wanted to help out if I could by giving a listen. I am no expert or professional on music but I am an avid listner of all kinds of Christian music so here goes. I really like song #1 You are Good. It has an uplifting, and upbeat tone, and catchy rythym and lyrics. Good luck on your new album and I will be praying for you.

I liked all three tracks… great songs. I would like the first track the best for an opening track… it feels a little more uptempo and if I was putting a worship set together I would use it towards the beginning of the set. All three will be great for congragational singing.

Andy, I think track 1 would be an awesome opening song! I love them all, however, and am really looking forward to purchasing it once it comes out. The words are powerful and the music is beautiful!

Andy
Personally I’m partial to “All of Creation” as the opening track and thanks for the drive on the beach, that’s cool
April 18th, 2008 at 01:59 am
Andy the first is my favourite, I think it would make a great opener.

Hi Andy!
I really like the first one for the opening song on your CD. It’s great and upbeat and I love the lyrics on it. Thanks and God bless you. Lisa

Hi Andy! Well, my first comment didn’t go through, so let’s see if I can remember what I said! :o) I love all three of your songs, but as I was listening to “All Creation,” I gotta tell ya that my spirit erupted into praise as you sang! God is getting ready to reveal Himself to us in ways we can’t even imagine! I truly feel that you should open with “All Creation.” Thank you for asking for my opinion, Andy. You, your family and ministry continue to be in my prayers. God is about to be glorified through your life and music in ways you have never experienced! Get ready to receive all that He has and continue to carry on in the work that He has set before you! Blessings to you, Andy Rogers. I can’t wait to hear the good report!

Andy thanks for asking for my input. Definitely “All Creation” is the one I would pick, as i listened to all three it was the one i could follow and really sensed God’s Spirit as it played. I am praying for you and yours.

Andy, I gotta agree with Terri above. I think “All of Creation” (#2) is a great opener for your cd. I will continue to pray for God to move thru your music and transform lives. I really appreciate your openness and desire to share. Keep us posted. (I’ll be praying for you to receive His leading on a title too..

yip its gonna be All of Creation for me too…hope thats helpful Andy…bless ya much :0)

I really love the first song and the third personally…I do agree that song two seems very poweful in its declaring the theme of worship over all the world! It sounds so good. I would start with song two and move from there! You dont need to credit my name or anything, Im just listening and loving the music. These songs even in its infancy were so nice and peaceful to my, they just make you want to smile and think more about the Goodness of God!
Praying as always for you and your family and of course that you soon find the details you are praying about ~ come together…May He provide the connections you need, the airfare, lodgings and of course the open heavens to play under!

Hi Andy, If I’m listening to a cd, I tend to be heavily influenced by the first track! Your first track should be a good one and somehow represent the kind of music you’re putting on it overall. Music’s very subjective and depends on personalities, but on your cd, I would start with All of Creation and follow that with Thank You for Your Faithfulness. The first song is is ‘God is Good’, sounds a little bit ‘punky’ for me, but its chorus is better than its starting verse, musically - I think its to do with the strictly ‘on beat’ drum and the vocals hitting the same beat consistently - it’s solid for a romping audience, but doesn’t represent the other two songs in style. The other two songs could use some nice instrumental solos on them.
All the best in America, sorry about criticising the first song.

I like “All Creation” as an opener. It has a very contemporary feel to the song and great lyrics. “You Are Good” is also a good song but a bit too “pop” in my opinion to open the album and represent the bulk of your work. I think it may be nice to have “You Are Good” after a few slower songs to sort of break up the mix? Good job though Andy! I’m looking forward to the final project.

Hi Andy, took a listen to the tracks and am slightly torn! I agree with other comments that ‘all of creation’ is a very powerful track. I also agree with the demo axiom that the first 30 seconds of a CD have to encapsulate the entire album for the listener, so in a sense that’s a suitable track. But at the same time I kind of always think the first track needs to be hugely upbeat in order to set the pace and get the listener into some of the rhythm and rhyme of the project, so I actually think that although it’s maybe not the strongest in terms of pure worship ’stuff’, ‘You Are Good’ is definitely upbeat and hectic enough to get the pulse going, as such.

Hi Andy,
I think track 2 ‘All of Creation’ for the opening song for three key reasons:
1.The theme of anticipation of hope and the day of redemption is good to think of at the beginning.
2.The declarations of what we will do now (i.e. pray with the deep groanings) reminds us of our purpose on earth and the importance of our relationship with God.
3.The Lord’s Prayer focus on His Kingdom coming and His Will being done reminds us of our calling and alligns our hearts with that of Christ’s.
The declaration focus of this song rather than a reflective focus, for example, is a good place to begin.
Thanks,
Jade

Got the sum wrong last time so post did not go through (maths not my strong subject!)
I think Thank you for your Faithfulness should go first because the opening bars are so strong and melodic.
You are good would be better further on in the album, as a foil for the gentler stuff. (Gentle as in strong and gentle, NOT as in wimp-y).
But then, once an album is in my iTunes I play from playlists or from least played or most played etc and the order they are on the album is lost anyway.

I would open with You Are Good then after worship is deeper then All of Creation & finish up with Thank you For your faithfulness.

Hi Andy, Hope you are doing well.
I like #2 -All of Creation. Afterall, it all began with creation. : ) It is a beautiful and majestic song to open with.
#1 You are Good would bring some lively up tempo sound in the mid portion of the CD as well.
# 3 would be beautiful as one of the latter songs…a giving of thanks. : )
Cheers!

They all are great , But I think that number 2 would be the best one

Andy, I think You are good would be great for the first track. It is really upbeat. Thanks for chance to help out.

The first song You Are Good is the best song to open with. It made me smile when I heard it. I really enjoyed all three, but this one stood out in my mind. Hope I helped.
God bless,

Andy,
Very cool idea - thanks for the scenic drive!
I think “You Are Good” is the winner. The drive of the kick and snare announce to me as a listener, “this album is GOING somewhere!”.
The other two are very nice - more like anthems in the way they come across, and I think they are better suited for the #4 or #5 slot, depending on the context of the rest of your material.
I love ya man, keep it up!

Andy,
My preferences are track 1, then 2, track 3 didn’t connect my musical mood but that’s just me!!
Also enjoyed the drive on Downhill Beach!!

Hey Andy! I really love all of your music! I made you one of my top friends on myspace cuz I’m really digging your songs. You’re inpiring me and giving me ideas for my next recording project! lol
Ok … I think I like the last of the three “Thank you for your faithfulness” as the opener…
May God richly bless you and your ministry!

Hi Andy
Glad to see the album is coming together! Have had a listen to your songs with my mum! So you’re going to get 2 opinions for the price of one! lol.
Both songs #1 and #2 have the potential to be strong openers. I think it all comes down to the overall ‘feel’ you are trying to achieve on the album.
For me #1 has a great up-tempo pop sound (which I love and write a lot of myself! - so may be a bit biased) - also strong and creative lyrics - they made me smile! So if you want to start with a bang and grab people’s attention, this is the one! - but it could also be the final track, a sort of explosion of praise right at the end!?
#2 is more mellow for my ears, but still strong. Soaring sound that lifts ones eyes heavenward. If the focus of the album is more along these lines, then #2 is the one to open with. My mum thought this one should start your CD!
So decide what ’sound’ and ‘journey’ you are wanting to create with this album and your opeining song should become clear.
Blessings

Hey Andy
Greetings from Norway, I’ve been blessed by your music. It was a great video you’ve put together for the preview, and as I was listening I thought that Track #2 - All of Creation - would make a great opening track. It’s got great lyrics and I liked the song too.
Wish you all the best in finalizing this cd.

Andy..Sharon and i both agree(for once) that track one is the starter for ten!!The 3 tracks are great but this track catches fire from the first chord!!
April 22nd, 2008 at 06:13 pm
Hi Andy, thanks for the preview. All three tracks are good, however I think track 1 ‘You Are Good’ has to be the opening track. Lyrically it would be hard to choose between the three, but the first has the uptempo which I always prefer for an opening track.
Look forward to the fnished product.
God bless

Hey Andy,
-Joy
I would definitely put the 2nd song first…it’s like a Genesis song…like a dawning of all creation. It’s beautiful. Also, dunno if it’s possible, but the 3rd song sounds like a great closing song (you know, after reviewing everything about God or whatever throughout the album…it’s like a final thank you Lord). And, of course, You Are Good is a great praise song too! Ok, there’s my thoughts. Good on ya mate
April 23rd, 2008 at 11:33 pm
Hey Andy,
First of all, I must say all three songs are amazing. But as for the first track on the CD, I would definitely go with track 1. I would choose this one because it has a great upbeat tempo and wonderful lyric hooks. If I had never heard the CD before and heard that track first, I would want to listen to the rest of the CD. As for track 2 and 3, they are amazing worship songs. I definitely want a copy of the CD when they come out!
Good Luck and God Bless!

I am very torn between You are Good and All of Creation, but after a second listen, my vote is more All of Creation. You are Good has a great “opening song” feel to it, but there is something really special about All of Creation.
Great songs!!!
May 9th, 2008 at 03:40 am
Hi Andy. Although track 1 would normally be the obvious choice since it is the most upbeat of the 3 songs, I really found myself drawn to “All of Creation” Sure, it’s starts a bit slower, but lifts into such a wonderful, majestic chorus, which makes the listener want to join in the anthem of praise. I enjoyed all three of the songs, and the cool beach ride!

Hey Andy,
Really great to see those videos of you and the band lifting up Jesus’ name in the public places.
Liking the sound of the new album a lot.
I’d vote ‘You are good’ as the first track… it seems to me like a good introduction to your style of vocals … which I connect with a lot
Looking forward to the new album and catching up sometime soon back in N.Ireland… with offices like yours it’s the place to be!

hello, greetings from california! love the music. stumbled on it tonight. I love a good energy and fast speed to opening songs, but’s what’s more important to me is the concept. All 3 deserve to be shared. I enjoyed them all (a few times)
YOU ARE GOOD #1 takes a moment to get to the “hook” and therefore doesn’t grab me immediately. ALL OF CREATION #2 seems to travel in a way. maybe even marches in a direction. tells a story and seems to say “drop what you’re doing, join creation and worship”. It takes me in quickly and makes me want to stay. THANK YOU FOR YOUR FAITHFULNESS” is sooo pratty and poetic. Always good to say thanks. but for me…. My vote is ALL OF CREATION! God Bless You and Yours! What an honour and privilege to Sing to the King!

Hi Andy,
“You Are Good” draws us in and keeps us singing the chorus all day long. It is bright and a great lead in to the other songs. …contagious…
