Song 12 of the 20/20 Project (could do with a 2nd verse?)
Saturday, August 11th, 2007This week’s song is a collaboration between Leigh-Ann, my eldest daughter, and myself.
I asked Leigh-Ann to created some music that we could hang a song on, so she came up with a chord sequence and rhythm that is the basis of song number 12. As a piano player she has come up with something that I probably wouldn’t have done on the guitar, which is great.
It’s a first draft that I think it needs another chorus, so this week I’m opening it up again to lyric suggestions for a second verse.
If you’d like to contribute to the process simply post your comments on the blog (click on the comment link below the video) or send me an email.
Even if you don’t have any lyric ideas please let me have your general feedback on the song.

Song 11 of the 20/20 Project awaits your listening ear!
Friday, August 3rd, 2007This week I have done things a little differently. Instead of a song that I have initiated this time it’s one created by my good mate Mark Rainey who has invited me into the co-writing process. Like the others it’s at the ‘formative idea stage’.
Also because it doesn’t require me to play and sing it I thought I’d do an ‘outside broadcast’ and feature some of the beautiful scenery from my ‘door step’ on the Causeway Coast here in Ireland.
Just after the video clip ended big wave almost swept me off the pier from which I was filming - Ah, the risks I take to get these songs to you! Maybe we could make songwritng an ‘extreme sport’
Enjoy

10th song of the 20/20 project… half way there - Whoo hoo!
Friday, July 27th, 2007Well, here we are at the half way point 10 weeks into the 20/20 project - can you believe it?!
Last week was a bit of a departure from my normal approach in that I asked for specific suggestions for a 2nd verse for song 9. I was pleasantly surprised at what a creative lot you are! I have been overwhelmed by the response and the creativity.
I must apologize for not responding individually to all the responses simply because I got so many. As well as the comments here at my main blog many of you have emailed and messaged me through myspace - I’ve got a ton of material to work through.
Because last week’s song included an open invitation to suggest lyrics it means that if this song gets published then the suggestions that get included will be credited as co-writers.
By the way, I want to do more of this in the future.
This week it’s back to the regular critique approach. I’ve got a fairly complete (I think) first draft of a song for your feedback. Things like; is it singable, does it stick well to one theme, does it make sense lyrically?
As before leave me a comment via the comment link below the video.

9th song of the 20/20 project…
Saturday, July 21st, 2007Folks, thanks so much for your comment, emails and feedback on the the songs so far. You’ve no idea how helpful it is in the overall process - thanks again.
Here’s the 9th song in the series (almost half way - can you believe it!).
This week I’ve done something a little different, inspired by some of your comments and feedback so far. I’ve uploaded a song loosely based on some of the words of Psalm 8, however I think it needs a 2nd verse - what do you think?
If you have any ideas please let me know.

8th song of the 20/20 project…
Monday, July 16th, 2007Hi Folks,
This week’s song is based on some musings around the opening of the Lord’s prayer. The line ‘Our father in heaven hallowed be your name’ got me thinking about how the various names of God are embodied in the name of Jesus (His name is, after all, the name above all names).
It’s actually an old set of lyrics that I wrote for a series of prayer concerts that I was involved in a number of years ago around Ireland. I had a sense at the time that the Lord was saying that ‘you’ll overcome the Goliath of your land with the 5 ’smooth stones’ of the Lord’s prayer’. You may remember how David, when he faced down Goliath, chose 5 smooth stones from a stream (1Sam 17:40) for his sling.
At that time I had been studying the Lord’s prayer and was aware that there were 5 main themes woven into it and that’s where the 5 smooth stones analogy came in. Anyway I wrote some songs based on these themes of which this was one.

As before, let me have your comments.

P.S. Please excuse the delay it was a busier week than anticipated playing bass in Kathryn Scott’s band at the New Wine conference in Sligo on the beautiful west coast of Ireland.

7th song of the 20/20 project…
Saturday, July 7th, 2007Here’s the 7th song of the 20/20 project. (Hey, I’ve just realised that I’m uploading in on 07/07/07! A significant day on lots of levels - I’m hearing great reports from ‘The Call’ in Nashville.
Infact let me ramble here for a minute or two before I get to the this week’s song because I just remembered something. Earlier this year I was invloved in a short tour that ended up in Nashville. On my final night before returning to Ireland my hosts, Jeff & Kim Balding invited some friends including Don and Christine Potter, John Ragsdale, my good friends Neil & Susan Andrews and others round for a party. It was a great gathering of creative and prophetic folks and we had a blast.
At the end of the night we had a prayer/ministry time together and in the midst of that I felt the Lord give me a picture. It was the scene from the classic CS Lewis story The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe were all of a sudden both the children and the white witch hear the sound of a stream flowing and realize that the snow and ice that covers the whole land is melting and the endless winter has just started to end.
In the story it inspires both hope in the Narnians and fear in the evil witch’s camp. My understanding was that the yearnings of the intercessors, worshippers and God seekers in the Nashville/Tennessee region’s were soon to be realised and the enemy’s grip was melting like snow in the spring.
Perhaps we’re seeing that happening today?
Anyway, on with the song. This one has been in my rewriting pile for a while. I used it in it’s current form on a few occassions live but feel it could be made more accessible for congregations to sing.
It’s based on the account in Revelation when John, who has known Jesus very closely during his time on earth, is completely undone when he experiences his unveiled splendour.

6th song of the 20/20 project…
Saturday, June 30th, 2007Hi Folks
Thanks for your comments on the previous songs. This week I’ve done a video again for you from my ’secret lab’ and I’ll apologise in advance for the groggy ‘Saturday morning voice’ quality of the vocals!
Anyway, it’s inspired by some of the words from Romans 8 - let me know if you think it needs a second verse, is it reasonably singable? does the theme make sense? or any other constructive observations that might improve it when it comes to the re-writing stage.

5th song of the 20/20 project…
Saturday, June 23rd, 2007This week I’ve done a couple of things differently for you.
1. Instead of recording an MP3 I have uploaded a video of this week’s song from my ’secret lab’ and…
2. Instead of doing a complete original I have… well you’ll have to watch the video to find out!
As ever leave me a comment here on the blog or drop me a line to let me know what works and what doesn’t.

4th song of the 20/20 project…
Saturday, June 16th, 2007This week I’ve been ruminating on both Psalm 40:1-2 and Isaiah 40:27-31. They both talk about waiting on God and His faithfulness to repsond to us - so this week’s song is a by-product of these two passages.
However, I’m a bit concerned about the melody of the chorus, it sounds very familar to me. This could just mean that I have been hearing it in my head for a while or it could be that I have inadvertantly copied the tune off someone else!
Let me know what you think, leave a coment or send me an email.
